Jeremy Clarkson Blasts Donald Trump Over AI Tiger Video After Yorkshire Wildlife Park Tragedy: “Completely Sick”

Jeremy Clarkson has never been shy about speaking his mind. Over the years we’ve seen him take on governments, councils, planning officers and just about anyone who stands between him and common sense. But this week his anger came from somewhere different. It wasn’t a rant for entertainment. It was the reaction of a man who felt someone had crossed a line that should never be crossed.

The target was Donald Trump, and the subject was a tragedy close to Jeremy’s own roots.
On Saturday 10 October, William Chapman lost his life after entering the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster. It’s the town where Jeremy himself was born. It was a devastating event for his family and a shock for everyone who knows and loves the park.

What happened next made the grief even harder to bear. On Tuesday 13 October, the US president shared real footage of the incident on Truth Social, captioned “Don’t ever mess with nature!” The White House’s “Rapid Response 47” account on X reshared the clip. Then Trump followed up with an AI-generated video of himself wrestling and befriending a smiling tiger, set to the upbeat tune of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

William’s family responded with a heartbreaking plea. They said the deeply offensive content circulating online was causing them severe distress, and they asked people to stop sharing it.
This is where Jeremy stepped in. In his newspaper column, he explained that he had deliberately chosen not to write about the tragedy itself, out of respect for William’s family. Some stories, he felt, simply aren’t his to tell. But he made it very clear he had no such hesitation about the president’s online behaviour. Jeremy described Trump’s posts as completely sick and beyond the pale.

As a long-time fan, I think this is Clarkson at his most human. People love to paint him as the loudmouth who says outrageous things for attention. Yet here he showed real restraint, holding back on the tragedy and saving his fire for what he saw as cruelty dressed up as content. For a man who has spent decades in the public eye, he clearly understands that behind every viral video is a real family living through the worst days of their lives.
It’s also worth remembering that Jeremy has had his own run-ins with Trump’s world before, so this isn’t the first time the two names have appeared in the same headline. This time, though, the dispute has nothing to do with politics or personality. It comes down to basic decency.
Meanwhile, Yorkshire Wildlife Park has now reopened following official safety discussions. The local council launched a health and safety investigation, and an inquest is examining the circumstances of the tragedy. The park confirmed that Altai, the Amur tiger involved, is safe and well and will not be put down.
Our thoughts remain with William Chapman’s family and friends. And whatever your politics, I suspect most people will agree with Jeremy on this one: some things should never be turned into entertainment.
Do you think Jeremy was right to speak out?
