Jeremy Clarkson’s partner has said he had two heartbreaking words while being filmed in hospital after his prostatecancer diagnosis but his choice to publicly share his diagnosis has benefited thousands of individuals.

The former Top Gear host is now in remission following his revelation on the most recent series of Clarkson’s Farm that he’d been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer.

The 66 year old opted for high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), a minimally invasive medical procedure that employs high-frequency soundwaves to heat and eliminate targeted cancer cells.

His partner of nine years, Lisa Hogan, revealed he was at first hesitant to make his diagnosis public knowledge.

She told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’m really happy he caught his prostate cancer early and I’m really proud of him for putting it on the show, because that was a really big decision. When I was filming him in hospital at first, he said, ‘Please don’t’.

“It was (producer) Andy Wilman who convinced him to do it, to help everybody else. When the show came out, Prostate Cancer UK had 30,000 people going on to their website in one day.”

Hogan revealed Clarkson has also gained from being open with those closest to him.

“Yes, of course it was a terrible worry,” she continued. “But what I did encourage him to do was to talk to his friends. He didn’t want to initially, but he’s got lots of friends who’ve been through the same thing and he’s been talking to them about it. I think that’s really helped.”

Recently Jeremy Clarkson said ‘I’m having joy in my old age’ after his cancer treatment as he shared he has not plans to give up alcohol.

Clarkson was told in one of the episodes to adjust his diet, opting for less fat and more protein.

However the TV star said he will not be sticking to this.

Speaking to The Times, Clarkson said: “Sure, I can eat less and more healthily. I can become a herbivore. And yes, I can go for 20-mile hikes and do 20,000 steps a day. But the truth is, there has to be some joy in life as well.

“And not drinking and not eating a pork chop means that there is less joy in life — and I haven’t worked my a*** off for 40 years to have no joy in my old age.

“So, I’m having joy in my old age.”

He added that he was unwell for a “short period of time” but is now doing a lot better.

Clarkson chose to have high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) which is a minimally invasive medical procedure that uses high-frequency, sound waves to heat and destroy targeted cancer cells.

He said following his treatment he is finding more pleasure in the small things in life from the daffodils to the leaves starting to curl out.
