Young & Restless Exclusive: Joshua Morrow Unpacks the ‘Horrible Choice’ That’s Trashing One of Nick’s Most Significant Relationships

The Young and the Restless’ Joshua Morrow feels Nick’s pain. It’s all but killing the character to know that ex-wife Phyllis is going all in with Matt, who raped Sharon (and Amy), framed Nick for his “murder,” ran Noah off the road, got Nick hooked on drugs and tried to kill him, Sharon, Adam and Noah. And that’s just a partial list of Matt’s misdeeds!
“Nick loves Phyllis,” Morrow tells Soaps.com. “He will always love and care about this woman just as much as he does Sharon. He will protect her the way he does Sharon. And the fact that Phyllis is making this decision, this horrible choice to be with someone that she truly doesn’t know or understand, is really affecting Nick and Phyllis’ relationship.”

As a couple, the twosome was a bit tumultuous. But since their latest divorce, Summer’s parents have developed “a very good friendship,” Morrow observes. “They’ve been in a good place.”
For the most part, that is. “Phyllis has always done shady things that really make Nick upset,” the actor acknowledges. “And the fact that Phyllis is doing this, and buying into this act that Nick thinks Matt is selling, is really making him angry.

“So he’s trying his best to heal in rehab, but it seems like all anyone is doing is coming and telling him how much Phyllis is listening to Matt and buying into it,” he continues, “and it’s just really bothering him. So we’ll see how it plays out, but this is always going to be a problem for Nick, that Phyllis is allowing Matt to be part of her life and it seems like she’s really falling for him.”
Yikes — and Nick isn’t even aware yet of Phyllis’ crazy scheme to “redeem” Matt by putting Sharon in danger so that he can save her!
