Matt Drives Patty to Drastic Measures — and Phyllis Sobs Over Daniel’s Surprise Move

At the park cafe, Cane updates Phyllis that the deal for the two downtown properties went through. He warns her to learn from his example as to how much you can lose by trying to take over the world. She’s glad his kids are talking to him again; Summer isn’t responding to her, but Daniel has a bigger heart.

When Daniel arrives, Cane departs to let them talk. Daniel, unsurprisingly, questions what his mother and Cane were up to.

Phyllis admits she bought two buildings from Ashby… and that she had to borrow money from multiple banks to do it. Daniel worries this wasn’t a wise move. Phyllis grasps this as her chance to ask him to come and work with her again.
Phyllis and Daniel banter, and she claims she only bought the Club because she lives there. The skyscraper across from Newman, she bought to remind Victor she’s still around. Daniel, concerned about how she’s going to pay back all of this money, abruptly calls Summer and asks her to talk some sense into his mother. He hands the phone to an astounded Phyllis.
Victor’s Surprise Visitor

At the ranch, Victor and Adam realize they haven’t seen Nick since yesterday; he’s obviously hiding something. Burrow arrives, looking to go over Nick’s story. Victor demands to know when the dealer will be arrested. Burrow explains that Joe disappeared after his run-in with Nick. The Newmans pressure the detective until he leaves. Victor and Adam both know what the cop suspects, and it’s not good.
Lily’s Fears

At Society, Lily worries to Nate that her doctor hasn’t responded yet and admits the dark thoughts about her cancer returning won’t stay away. She considered opening up to Cane, but stopped herself, and questions if she totally trusts him. While Nate doesn’t trust the guy, he thinks she should listen to her heart. Lily fears that letting the potential cancer news out could cause too much friction; she wants to keep this a secret.
Devon overhears and starts grilling his sister about keeping secrets. Nate tries to cover, but Lily quickly comes clean with her brother. He hugs her and reminds her she’s not alone. Cane walks in and assumes they are celebrating something. Lily swipes at a tear and covers as Nate and Devon head to the bar. They sit, and Cane tells her he thought she was off before… now he knows something is wrong.’
Matt Therapizes Patty

In a car, Matt startles a gabbing Patty by suggesting that she turn herself in. She doesn’t want to hear this, covers her ears, and chants. Eventually, the madwoman seeks an explanation. Clark warns she can’t just get a new identity and start fresh. Patty assumes Matt wants to turn her in to get “good” points so he can play house with Phyllis. She rants about him becoming a wimp. When she wants something, she takes it. Clark sarcastically asks how that’s working out for her.
Patty insists she’s not reacting to some deep trauma. Matt is sure that there is good in her somewhere. He needs to believe that and asks her to recall her favorite moment. Patty gets a faraway look in her eye as she tells him it was when she was five. Her dad, who didn’t have much time for her, took her to the zoo and out for ice cream. Matt asks what five-year-old Patty would think of the woman she’s become.
The Final Scenes
At Society, Devon and Nate lament that Lily doesn’t deserve what’s happening. Devon will do anything to help his sister and declares he’ll fly in specialists if need be. Nate asuress him everything is under control for now. Devon then shocks Nate by saying he thinks Lily should tell Cane what’s going on… he was great with her the last time she had cancer.

At their table, Cane tells Lily he can see that she’s holding something back. Lily admits that she is, but she can’t tell him until the time is right. He’ll have to trust her.

At the ranch, Adam and Victor continue worrying about Nick. Victor assumes his son is out of his right mind and needs to be brought home.

At the park cafe, Phyllis admits to Summer, over the phone, that she did a deal with Cane, but it was legal. Overcome with emotion, Phyllis cries to Summer that she misses her so much and takes full responsibility for everything that went wrong between them. She pleads for them to be a family again. Summer tells her she has to go and they say goodbye. Phyllis is just happy she didn’t hang up on her. Daniel tells his mom they both want to trust her again.
Still in the car, Matt promises, in a soothing voice, to be a friend to Patty if she turns herself in. He’ll make sure she lands someplace where she can really get help. Declaring through gritted teeth that she would rather die that be locked up again, she grabs the steering wheel and runs them off the road… kinda like Matt did to Nick.
