New House of the Dragon character portraits released

Never running out of new stuff.

A fresh set of promotional character portraits of the main cast of House of the Dragon Season 3 has begun circulating online.

The images, photographed by James Minchin, show several key characters in new or refined costumes way after the show’s season 3 ended.

About the photographer

The portraits come from James Minchin’s personal portfolio site, where House of the Dragon is listed under his recent key art work for HBO.

Minchin is a commercial photographer known for character portraits and key art on series including The Penguin, The Boys, Outlander, and earlier seasons of House of the Dragon.

Fan accounts have been sharing the images as they appear on his site on X. They are studio-style promotional portraits rather than official episode stills released by HBO.

Characters featured so far

Portraits that have been shared include:

– Emma D’Arcy as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen
– Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower
– Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen.
– Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen.
– Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II Targaryen.
– Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole.
– Phoebe Campbell as Rhaena Targaryen.
– Phia Saban as Queen Helaena Targaryen.
– Matthew Needham as Larys strong
– Bethany Antonia as Baela Targaryen
– Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull.
– Tom Bennett as Ulf White.
– Kieran Bew as Hugh Hammer

Minchin’s portfolio page lists a larger number of images for the series, so additional characters may still surface.

The portraits use the same moody lighting and detailed costume focus that have defined the show’s promotional imagery. They emphasize the more mature and battle-ready appearances of the central figures as the Dance of the Dragons continued in Season 3.

The images follow the same pattern as earlier Minchin portraits from the start of the season, which also first appeared via his portfolio as well as House of the dragon’s official pages before being widely shared by fans.
